Bicycle riding isn’t just for adults! The best way to get kids to consider the sport of cycling is to have them experience how fun it is ride a bike.
Each day, we’ll have children’s races immediately prior to the professional events. Kids, ages Big Wheel to 12, will be able to race or ride across the exact same Finish Line as the pros. Our announcers and fans will make a whole lot of noise and guarantee that each kid will enjoy the ‘pro’ experience. We will line up the ‘racers’ according to their age groups, with the Big Wheel racers doing the shortest distance and moving back the start line for each successive category. Racing distance will be approximately 200+ meters.
The $5 entry fee includes a Tour de Grove T-Shirt, Special St. Louis Science Center Packet, City Museum coupons, Jelly Belly Pro Cycling Team Schwag, a Tour de Grove Coloring Poster designed by Rokitmul, an official race number , awards ribbons and more. Proceeds will go towards neighborhood charities.
Age classes are divided into six categories, (Big Wheel, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8. 9-10, 11-12) making for fair and fun competition. Participants should arrive and register one hour prior to race start- registration closes 15 minutes prior to the races.
The top 3 finishers in each category will receive custom Tour de Grove Build-a-Bears from St. Louis’ own Build-a-Bear Workshop. We’ll be putting 3 bears on the line- 3 per race for all 5 races each day.

St. Louis for Kids provides leadership, coordination, technical assistance, and advocacy to the region’s youth-serving organization focused on improving quality, accessibility and sustainability of non-school hour programs so that our youth have the opportunity to achieve their full potential and grow into healthy adults. The organization serves the community need for quality afterschool programs to keep children safe, improve their academic performance, and help working families.

The Tour de Grove Kids Races Powered By Powerade will feature a host of incentives to help you move your kids from indoor to outdoor. The 1st 100 racers will recieve prize packages from the St. Louis Science Center featuring a bevy of exciting premiums: A “stress-reliever shark!!,” discount coupons to the Summer Exhibition, Real Pirates, crayons, free spaghetti coupon to The Pasta House, a discount coupon to Park Avenue Coffee and more.

And wait there’s more…! Each kid who puts on a helmet and lays it on the line will receive coupons the the St. Louis City Museum and prizes donated by the Jelly Belly Professional Cycling Team. Jelly Belly Water Bottles and Sport Beans, while supplies last. Jelly Belly Professional Cycling Team riders will be around to give out autographs.

What are the Saint Louis Language Immersion Schools?
In 2009, St. Louis Language Immersion Schools Inc. will open the first two schools in its network: French and Spanish language immersion elementary charter schools in the City of St. Louis. Each school will begin enrollment with Kindergarten and First Grade students and will grow to Fifth Grade. The SLLIS network will grow to include 8 elementary schools and a secondary school. All schools in the SLLIS network will implement the International Baccalaureate curricular frameworks in addition to local and national achievement measures.

Early language immersion improves overall academic achievement. It enhances brain development, memory and cognitive learning. World language learning increases social awareness and achievement in basic skills such as communication and listening. Immersion students become more flexible thinkers and exhibit greater nonverbal problem-solving abilities.
Since 1967, Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club (HHBGC) has been providing a safe place for children to learn and grow. Our mission is to inspire and enable youth ages 6 to 18 to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. HHBGC now serves over 3,500 youth in St. Louis at three sites, two 21st Century Community Learning Centers, and at five schools through the Mentor St. Louis program.
The Club is open during hours that kids are most likely to need a safe place to go — after school and during the summer. HHBGC programs are based on the Youth Development Strategy, which assures that all members have experiences that promote a positive self-image. Nationally recognized programs assist youth succeed in school, stay healthy, pursue interests in arts, sports and explore career choices. Membership fees are kept low to allow any child the opportunity to join. An annual membership costs just $25 — including free dental and vision care!
